Let us fear.

Hebrews 4:1, THEREFORE, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

How do we who are saved by faith through grace read this? Scripture tells us that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” One of my teachers related an incident that gave me some insight into this recently. He has always easily gotten lost while traveling, and was overseas with a local guide. This concept of fear became clear to him, for without this guide he would be hopelessly lost, and so he kept his eyes on him at all times. As we are indeed saved by grace, do we have this Holy fear that keeps our eyes on Jesus, not wanting to miss one step or one turn, uniting His word with our faith that we might not fall short of how He wants to use us? “What use is it, my brethren, if a man says he has faith, but has no works?”

Unite the words we hear from You with the faith to keep our eyes upon You, to follow in Your steps today, Lord Jesus.
