Jesus hid himself.

John 8:58-59, The Jews therefore said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple.

We read of Jesus making statements that outraged people, to the point that they would seek to kill Him. What provoked this kind of outrage in those who heard Him, the claim that He was there to preach the good news to the poor? That He was there to release the captives, give sight to the blind and set free the downtrodden? Or was it that He was there to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord? In this case, He proclaimed His preexistence even to father Abraham, telling the truth about who He is. Perhaps we should not be surprised when we tell the truth about Jesus, if there is outrage?

Give us boldness to proclaim Your good news, speaking the truth in love, to bring glory to the name of the Lord.
