They had no bread.

Mark 8:14-16, And they had forgotten to take bread; and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. And He was giving orders to them, saying, "Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." And they began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.

We, like the disciples, are focused on the here and now, and upon the things that we have to deal with every day. They were focused on their need for food, despite the fact that they had witnessed His feeding of the multitudes! We can see from this discussion, that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, for He was not warning them about physical leaven, but about spiritual leaven. He could see the corruption that had come to the religious and secular leaders, and knew the hardness of their hearts. As we turn to Him, and seek Him, we can know that He offers us Himself as the bread of life and we will never be without bread.

We thank You that You are the bread of life, that in You we have spiritual nourishment without limit!
